Government researchers announced
yesterday that a tick borne infection, commonly known as Babesiosis,
is becoming a growing threat to the U.S. blood supply, and there is
no easy way to spot it. Babesiosis is transmitted through a tick
bite or during a blood transfusion. According to the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration, there are currently no diagnostic tests
approved to test people for the infection before they donate blood.
